L’artista R&B emergente di Buenos Aires MAR1ASOL ha appena pubblicato il suo nuovo EP di 5 tracce, Different.
Il progetto è una vera rappresentazione della sua crescita ed evoluzione artistica, mettendo in mostra una miscela unica di R&B, soul ed elementi pop. Sorprendentemente, MAR1ASOL ha trovato la sua nicchia scrivendo ed esibendosi in inglese, la sua seconda lingua.
Nata in Argentina, ma cantando in un inglese perfetto, la venticinquenne MAR1ASOL è benedetta da una voce roca e risonante che mette in risalto, nel modo migliore, tutto il materiale musicale che offre, i cui eccellenti campioni sonori portano una costante atmosfera vecchia scuola dell’R&B degli anni ’90.
Abbiamo avuto l’onore di intervistarla e conoscerla meglio.
Ciao MAR1SOL e benvenuta a Lacasadelrap e grazie per la tua disponibilità, prima di tutto puoi dirci chi è MAR1SOL?
Grazie tante a voi per il tempo che avete messo a disposizione! L’apprezzo molto. MAR1ASOL è il mio nome d’arte e il mio modo di esprimermi attraverso la musica. È sicuramente la persona che avrei voluto diventare quando ero più giovane e ora sto cercando di stare al passo con i sogni e i desideri di quella bambina che ero.
Come hai iniziato il tuo viaggio musicale e a che età?
Ho iniziato professionalmente quando avevo 21 anni (adesso ho 25 anni), ma ho iniziato a cantare quando ne avevo 19. Ad ogni modo è stato difficile per me espormi e il viaggio è stato una quantità di grandi lezioni di apprendimento per me.
Sei argentina, in che modo la tua cultura sudamericana ha influenzato la tua musica?
Sono afroargentina, i miei genitori sono un misto tra nativi/bianchi/neri. Di solito ascoltavano r&b anni ’70/’80 e musica soul durante la mia infanzia. Quando sono cresciuta ho iniziato a cercare più musica di quei generi e mi sono innamorata del tipo di musica degli anni ’90 e dell’R&B contemporaneo che segue anche la linea vintage. Come sudamericana, quel tipo di musica era presente solo nella mia famiglia poiché non è un genere che la gente ascolterebbe qui dove piace più il reggaeton, cumbia o tango per i più senior.
Quali sono le tue influenze musicali, quali artisti ti hanno influenzato di più nel tuo percorso musicale?
Sicuramente Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Sade e Adina Howard. Cantanti r&b degli anni ’90 che potrebbero corrispondere anche alla mia estensione vocale (cantanti contralto/tenore).
Hai appena pubblicato il tuo ultimo progetto, l’EP Different, puoi parlarcene, come è nato?
Different è un progetto che ho scritto dopo che il mio ultimo singolo RIP these moments, ha funzionato molto bene su TikTok e ha raggiunto più di 500K stream su tutte le piattaforme. Mi ha fatto sentire che avrei dovuto prendere la musica più seriamente combinando una visione e suoni che mi piace ascoltare da altre canzoni. Ho vissuto un momento straziante mentre la mia vita professionale stava andando meglio ed è un EP che ne esprime ogni momento, includendo traumi personali del passato.
Se ti dovessi perdere su un’isola deserta, quali tre album vorresti portare con te?
Ottima domanda! 1. Urban Hang Suite di Maxwell, 2 Promise di Sade, 3 Rapture di Anita Baker.
Se potessi scegliere un featuring con chi vorresti collaborare ai tuoi album?
Il mio sogno è stato Joyce Wrice per un po’, ma ora aggiungerei Alex Vaughn. Adoro gli artisti R&B emergenti.
Cosa ne pensi della scena R&B in questo momento?
Penso che sia un genere bellissimo circondato da enormi talenti. Vorrei che molti artisti non finissero in un limbo senza un’etichetta ma su un’etichetta con un budget maggiore per musicisti che lavorano sodo e che ultimamente stanno creando delle gemme musicali. Ma sono sicura che gli amanti della musica apprezzano ciò che è buono e distinguere ciò che non lo è.
Hai in programma di fare un tour in Europa? Cosi magari il pubblico italiano avrebbe il piacere di ascoltarti live?
Sono sempre aperta a novità e nuove esperienze! In questo momento potrei avere presto notizie su qualcosa di veramente eccitante legato a una cerimonia di awards ,ma anche il tour in Europa è qualcosa che mi piacerebbe fare.

Hi Marisol and welcome to Lacasadelrap thanks for your availability, first of all, can you tell us who’s Mar1sol?
Thank you so much for your time as well! I really appreciate this interview. MAR1ASOL is my artistic name and my way to express myself through music. It’s definitely the person I wished I’d become when I was younger and now I’m trying to keep up with that kid’s dreams and desires.
How did you start your musical journey and at what age?
I started professionally when I was 21 (I’m 25) but I started singing when I was 19. Anyways it was hard for me to expose myself and the journey has been a number of big learning lessons for me.
You’re Argentinian, in which way your South American culture influenced your music?
I’m afroargentinian, my parents are mixed between native/white/black and they usually listened to 70s/80s r&b and soulful music around me. When I grew up I started searching for more music in those genres and fell in love with the 90s type of music and contemporary r&b that follows that vintage line as well. As a south american, that type of music it was only present in my family since it’s not a normal or average genre people would listen to here. (They like reggaeton, cumbia, or tango for older ones).
What are your musical influences, which artists influenced you the most?
Definitely Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Sade, and Adina Howard. The 90s R&B singers that might match my vocal range as well (alto/tenor singers)
You have just released your last project the EP Different, can you talk about it, how did come about?
Different is a project I wrote after my last single (RIP these moments) that worked very well on TikTok and reached more than 500K streams on all platforms. It made me feel I should take music more seriously combining a vision and sounds I enjoy hearing from other songs. Experienced a heartbroken moment while my professional life was doing better and it’s an EP expressing every moment of it for me + personal traumas from the past.
If you could get lost on a desert island, which three albums would you like to take with you?

If you could choose any feature who would you like to collaborate with in your albums?
My dream has been Joyce Wrice for a while now but now I’d add Alex Vaughn. I love upcoming r&b artists.
What do you think about the R&B scene at the moment?
I think it’s a beautiful genre surrounded by huge talents. I wish a lot of artists wouldn’t end up in limbo without a label, but instead on a label with a bigger budget for hard-working musicians that are dropping gems lately. But I’m sure music lovers appreciate what’s good and understand what’s not.
Any plans on touring in Europe?
Always open to it! Right now I might have news soon, about something really exciting related to big awards, but touring in Europe is something I’d love to do as well.
